And Jennylyn Learns To Let Go

c/o sheffon

By Alwin M. Ignacio

She was the first ultimate Starstruck female survivor, got together and separated from her real and reel partner Mark Herras, and continues to face the most tear-inducing intrigues (the high point so far is the reported love triangle that involved Herras and Ryza Cenon), as well the most ridiculous adversaries (an anonymous stalker has been pestering her recently by sending her threats and vulgar messages). Jennylyn Mercado considers all these as just part of growing up.

With a string of successful TV shows, a couple of box-office hit movies and a maiden album that turned gold, the young woman has fully developed into a stunning victor in front of our very eyes. And now, she busies herself with the promotion of her sophomore album, aptly titled Letting Go.

“I’ve been busy with a lot of work in TV, movies, concerts, even traveled out of the country. That is why it took awhile for me to go to back to my first love, which is singing,” says Jennylyn during the album’s press launch. “There is no particular person na gusto kong patungkulan why the album is titled as such. It took a long time for me to achieve this state of happiness. I really have to learn the hard way and let go of all the heartaches and bad memories. Forgive and forget the people that have caused all the pains I experienced.

“I’m very excited about this album and I hope my fans will fully support it. Somehow, Letting Go captures my animated personality, my unshakeable determination to perfect myself as a singer, my girl-next door personality, and masarap yung you are given the chance to perform with a big crowd, like in a mall or in a concert, and then after your song numbers, you will hear yung mga palakpakan ng tao. Sobrang masarap ang feeling na you know they appreciate what you did.”

Her second album is a testimony of how much she has grown musically and emotionally. According to Mercado, “The album brings out a more mature Jennylyn. Each song allows me to display my newfound assurance and confidence. There are numbers that require me to be dramatic, some songs give me a chance to be a little melancholic, and a few makes me sound a little sexy. I’m proud to say that I delivered it quite well, I think.”

Some of the more ear-catching tracks are: “Sa Aking Panaginip,” the first single created by master composer Vehnee Saturno. Here, Jennylyn is well-complemented with an appropriate orchestral backing and her distinctive voice soars above the musical arrangements. In fact, during the grand climax, she funnels her rich tone as if declaring a valiant comeback. “The Art of Letting Go,” the title track, is given an aesthetically acoustic treatment, which is so different from the original. Mercado sings with a genuine sentiment about losing someone special. Wrapped with tender guitars, supple piano works and delicate instrumentation, Jennylyn’s vocal styling stands out that it can be considered as one of the best tracks of the album. In “Devil in Disguise,” she sashays into Shakira territory and becomes playful, sexy and slightly groovy. Of course, the mushy “Moments of Love,” a duet with soul king Janno Gibbs, is in the 10-piece package. Finally, in “Pangako Mo,” a song which she herself composed, her newfound confidence and vocal maturity glows throughout the ballad.

Since Mark Herras continues to play a significant role in her life, is there a song she dedicates to her ex? “‘Tanging Ikaw.’ I think bagay na bagay siya for Mark. In spite of what happened to our relationship, I know he is always there for me. He has become a very good partner and he has become my best friend. To our fans who have grown accustomed to us as partners, they will surely relate to its saccharine lyrics for it somewhat captures the sweet feelings we once had for each other.”

Letting Go
Jennylyn Mercado

If there's still any doubt that Jennylyn Mercado has had an emotional shakeup (and shakedown) this past year her new CD demolishes it. Letting Go, either by chance or by design, could be the closest anyone can get their hands - and ears - on to a celebrity's diary. And since that romance hasn't quite turned out to be a bed of roses it is unsurprising that the album is shot through with heartbreak and deeply wounded passion. "Dati-rati'y laging nariyan / Puso'y inalagaan / ... Jennylyn laments on the album's penultimate track, "Pangako Mo," which marks the 19-year-old's songwriting debut. But hard as she tries, "Ikaw pa rin / Ikaw pa rin" she confesses on the song's chorus. That doesn't sound much of a closure and from the looks of it there may never be any. After all, as she declares, "Pagka't sa'yo natutong magmahal," in the album's opening track and carrier single, "Sa Aking Panaginip," this is her first love.

Fortunately the potential for over-sentimentalizing largely remains low. The album only seldom sounds as melismatic as it could clearly have. And much credit goes to Jennylyn's slightly-mature-for-her-age vocals and restrained, even nuanced delivery. Sad but never choked, sexy-cool when she could've been cheesy-foxy (in the standout Shakira-lite track "Devil In Disguise," a song about getting teribly hooked on a, well, bad boy), strong with no hint of smugness, and hopeful with just the right amount of gravitas and world-weariness, she shows promise as a thoughtful, seasoned performer. By all accounts there has't been much letting go that's happened, both on and off the album. And that's not such a bad thing at all.

Maglalagare si direk Mark sa shooting ng Eternity at Till I Met You nina Regine Velasquez at Robin Padilla for GMA Films. Man from Atlantis at Aqua Man.

Nominado for best actress sina Claudine Barretto (Nasaan Ka Man), Zsa Zsa Padilla (Ako Legal Wife), Cherrie Pie Picache (Bikini Open), Irma Adlawan (Mga Pusang Gala), and Jennylyn Mercado (Blue Moon).

Remember, nag-win na si Zsa Zsa as best actress sa MMFFP last December for the same movie.

JENNYLYN DENIES MESSING UP ALEX-JEREMY AFFAIR

JENNYLYN Mercado is surprised that her name is being dragged as one of the reasons why Alessandra de Rossi broke up with Jeremy Marquez.

Jeremy can easily deny this to show he’s a gentleman, but he chooses to be mum on the matter.

“I’m really annoyed kung bakit nasali ako sa gulo nila,” she says. “I won’t allow Jeremy to woo me dahil I know naman he’s already committed to someone else. Also, I’m not the type who’d mess up other people’s relationships.”

But Jen admits she has gone out on dates with Patrick Garcia, who earlier declared he has a crush on her.

“We just go out for dinner, then sing sa videoke,” she says. “But we’re not alone, may mga iba ka-ming kasama. Patrick is nice to be with. He’s a real gentleman and knows how to respect a woman. Sobrang bait niya.”

Won’t this development in her personal life affect the high ratings of her I Luv NY with Mark Herras?

“I don’t think so,” she says. “People naman know na hindi na talaga kami, but they continue to support our loveteam. The show continues to do well, kaya nga we just got extended until August.”

Besides, it’s about time na siguro that Jennylyn finds a new inspiration.

DAILY INSIDER
by : Dinno Erece

JENNYLYN Mercado should learn how to coo-perate sa love team nila ni Mark Herras.

Imbes na umiwas sa issue, matamis pa niyang sinagot na, “yes nagdi-date nga kami ni Patrick,” and that she hopes na magkaka-tandem sila in the future. Well and good dahil magkasama na nga sila sa isang station.

Bukod dito, may ginagawa silang pelikula ni Mark, ang Eternity with Dingdong Dantes and Iza Calzado under director Mark Reyes, at may isa pang naka-standby for MMFFP 2006, ang Super Noy-Pi ni Quark Henares with John Prats naman.

In all of these projects, hindi required na mapag-usapan si Patrick dahil hindi naman ito makatutulong sa promotion ng loveteam nila.

Jennylyn should take a lesson from Angel Locsin in matters of discretion. Kaya mabenta pa rin ang love team niya either with Richard Gutierrez or Dennis Trillo, she doesn’t mix business and pleasure.

JEREMY Marquez is bent on winning back Alessandra (‘Alex’) de Rossi even as he shrugs off rumors linking him to Jennylyn Mercado. There’s nothing between Jen and me. Bugbog na ako sa intriga,” he sighs.

No two-timing for him? Only a second time around? “I still love Alex. I’m doing everything to woo her. I’m making myself a better person. Hopefully, one day, I’ll be the perfect guy for Alex.”

When your heart is in it, the sky’s the limit, right Jeremy? Seeing how sweet they were during their unguarded moments, it’s such a waste if they throw it all away. Looks like there’s hope because their split-up was caused by external and not internal factors. If their hearts still ache for each other, how can they let anything come between them except love?

Patrick and Jennylyn are constant dates

Both Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia admitted that they are currently on the getting-to-know-you stage and by seeing each other frequently, they hope to discover more of each other's qualities. While Patrick has expressed a strong attraction for Jennylyn, the latter only said she finds Patrick nice and would like to know him better. She's also looking forward to working with him in a movie or TV project.

Jennylyn asks Alessandra to spare her

After Alessandra da Rossi and Jeremy Marquez broke up, word started circulating that jennylyn Mercado caused it. despite Alessandra's confirmation that Jennylyn indeed, caused the break-up and the latter's text messages to Jeremy prove it, Jennylyn begged Alessandra to spare her. According to Jennylyn, Jeremy just happens to be not her type.

Jennylyn, wala nang lusot sa hiwalayang Alex-Jeremy

BASTA
by : Nitz Mirallez

Jennylyn Mercado

As long as ’di totoo, ’di ako bothered.

Nag-“I miss you” pa raw sa message si Jennylyn.
