According to the grapevine, Jennylyn Mercado recently had an operation
due to a serious illness. But the statement released by her manager
Becky Aguila emphasized that fans should not worry about Jen's health
because she is in top shape and is going through her usual work.

Jennylyn finds healing in music

“LETTING GO” is not just the title of Jennylyn Mercado’s sophomore album; it’s also the actress’ approach to self-healing. The physical abuse she was exposed to at age three had left her emotionally and psychologically scarred.

The experience has also made her very wary of people, which, in turn, has earned her the reputation of being aloof and bratty when she found fame in “StarStruck.”

TV series

“I’ve learned to let go. Ngayon, wala nang fear,” Jennylyn declares, her eyes twinkling as she takes a break from taping scenes for the TV series, “I Luv New York.”

“Supporting a group of kids with the same experience has also helped me find healing.

At 19, Jennylyn is having the time of her life as she pursues her life-long passion (singing) and newfound love (acting). But, she also sees herself trying her luck in another field -- in a place like New York.

Weather

Needless to say, she loved the taste of the Big Apple when she, along with castmates Jolina Magdangal, Marvin Agustin and Mark Herras, stayed there for a month to tape scenes for the show. “We had so much fun. Parang hindi kami nagtatrabaho. I miss the weather there. Nung nandun kami, nag-snow -- sobrang lamig!,” she relates.

Jennylyn recalls running into Filipinos in New York, and getting tickled pink everytime they recognized her. “May Pinoy TV (GMA 7’s international cable affiliate) na kasi, kaya kilala nila ako,” she explains.

Bratty character

In fact, Jennylyn has little in common with Natalie, the bratty character she plays on the TV series, who flees to New York after her cash-strapped parents tell her that she’s been betrothed to the son of their wealthy associates. Natalie then finds romance when she meets the character played by Mark Herras, her former real-life boyfriend.

Romance may have withered on the vine for Jennylyn and Mark, but the actress insists that their relationship is better than ever. She reasons: “We’re better friends now.”

"OO, hawak kamay. Kadiri nga sila>" Nagtext uli kami para itanong kung naghahabol ba ang dalawa sa last full show ng movie dahil alas nuebe niya nakita ang mga ito. Unfortunately that was the end of the line ng aming texter na nag request not to publish her number. Sige, as you wish!

ETERNITY: BIG BUDGET EPIC LOVE STORY TO CHERISH FOR ALL TIME

c/o jenmark4ever of igma

Regal Entertainment brings to the screen “Eternity,” a big-budget epic love story that’s set to mesmerize and enchant moviegoers.

This movie, which stars the very popular love team of Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado and talented young superstars Iza Calzado and Dingdong Dantes, tells of the great love between Crisanto (played by Dingdong) and Milagros (Iza) who are reincarnated in Maegan (Jennylyn) and Cholo (Mark). Crisanto and Milagros, lovers during the Spanish era, are kept apart by their warring families. Maegan and Cholo, who are set to experience the same hardship, must do something to reverse the curse. Also in the cast are Bobby Andrews Jaclyn Jose, and Hilda Koronel.

“Eternity” will take the viewer from the nostalgic Spanish period to the upbeat and vibrant new millennium. Plenty of the scenes will be shot in rustic Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Regal has heavily invested in historical research and design to give the movie an authentic Spanish colonial feel. Sets have been built especially for the crucial scenes where the past and the present magically intertwine.

Scheduled to be shown in August, “Eternity” is from writer Gina Marissa Tagasa and director Mark Reyes, the same creative team that brought to us the box-office hit “Moments of Love.” Also on board the production team are director of photography Jay Linao, and production designer Chito Sumera.

***************
Mag-i-enjoy na lang siya at blessing ang tingin to be working with Dingdong Dantes, direk Mark Reyes and Hilda Koronel.

REGAL LORDS OVER MMFF AGAIN

c/o jenmark4ever of igma

ONCE again, Regal Entertainment will have four entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival in December.

After Star Cinema pulled out its Tanging Pamilya, the screening committee chose Regal’s Super Noypi as replacement.

This is the story about a rock-and-roll band directed by Quark Henares, starring Dennis Trillo, John Prats, Polo Ravales, and Heart Evangelista in her first film outside ABS-CBN.

The other Regal entries are ZsaZsa Zaturnnah directed by Joel Lamangan and starring Zsa Zsa Padilla, Rustom Padilla and Alfred Vargas; Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di with Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado, the directorial debut of scriptwriter Jun Lana; and Shake Rattle & Roll 8 with three directors and an all-star cast.

Regal has started the shooting of the Iza Calzado and Dingdong Dantes romantic drama Eternity after the huge success of their teamup in Moments Of Love. This is megged by Mark Reyes once again.

Marco, Jennylyn madalas mag-date

"Good for them!" ang reaksyon ni Jen sa pagkakabalikan nina Alessandra at Jeremy Marquez.

Dream Factory

Mario Bautista

JENNYLYN Mercado and Mark Herras just returned from the historic city of Vigan where they shot some scenes for “Eternity.” From there, they went to the presscon of their Metro filmfest entry, “Super Nopyi,” directed by Quark Henares. We ask Jen if it’s true she and Alessandra de Rossi snubbed each other at GMA-7’s “Fantastic 56” anniversary celebration at the World Trade Center.

"No, there was no chance na magkita kami as we were assigned different dressing rooms," she says. "When we were called on stage, sobrang layo namin sa isa’t isa so imposibleng magkabatian kami. But I don’t mind greeting her kung magkikita kami."

What she can say now that Alex and Jeremy Marquez have reconciled? "Good, I’m happy for them.

After Jeremy, she was linked to Patrick Garcia and Marco Alcaraz. "I’m glad they both declared na friends lang kami.

She’s happy to be a part of a multi-million project like "Super Noypi" that has an initial budget of P100 million. Set in 2075, the futuristic film will use Hollywood experts to make sure it’s of world-class quality. The special effects supervisor is Ted Godwin, while in charge of make up and prosthetics is Joe La Penna, both of whom Mother Lily met at the Hongkong International Filmfest.

"This is our special offering for children in the Christmas season," she says. "I’m using young blood to make a totally different kind of film for today’s generation. The writers, Enzo Valdez and Fair Raymundo, are first timers still in college. Quark is one of our youngest directors and I’m impressed with his very fresh ideas for the film."

"Super Noypi" is about a group of new Filipino superheroes who have yet to refine the use of their superpowers. Mark Herras has telekinetic powers. Jennylyn has the power to time-travel and is an expert in the martial arts. John Prats can be an aswang with super strength. Katrina Halili can be invisible. Polo Ravales is a magician. Rhian Ramos has the power to produce fire and ice. Child star Aaron Junatas has the power of elasticity.

At the presscon, there was audio-visual presentation showing the various characters and their supposed looks in the films, plus an animated vision of how Manila will look in 2075 with flying jeepneys and tricycles. It’s really awesome and if they could execute it well, this will really be the film to watch in the coming filmfest.

Amid the frenzied taping of indoor scenes for Channel 7’s primetime series I Luv New York at an Ortigas Center hotel, Jennylyn Mercado knows exactly what to do.

The one-fourth of the main cast (that also includes Jennylyn’s love team partner, Mark Herras, and the reunited tandem of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal) needed only a few moments to memorize her lines and get into character. She plays Natalie, a spoiled brat who’s been betrothed by her suddenly cash-strapped parents to a man she’s never met so she flees to New York, where she learns to live independently and freely falls in love.

Jennylyn breezes through her scenes, and as director Louie Ignacio nods, “Good take,” she hurries off to one of the two rooms in the hotel suite that doubles as the dressing room of the four cast members to change into another set of costumes. In a jiffy, she’s ready to do more scenes with equal energy and enthusiasm.

Who would have thought that this is the same Jennylyn who used to burst into tears because of frustration and near surrender during the run of the first season of StarStruck, the Kapuso network’s artista search?

The 19-year-old who had a stint as a lounge singer and as an actress in several TV commercials before winning the Ultimate Female Survivor title at a glitzy final’s night presentation at the Araneta Coliseum on Feb. 1, 2004, giggles at the recollection of her make-or-break days.

More importantly, Jennylyn has finally found healing from an abused childhood, which in the past had held her from trusting other people and expressing her true self. Thus, while competing in the reality-based talent-and-looks contest, she was labeled as suplada (aloof), maldita (brat) and may sariling mundo (lost in her own world).

Jennylyn was only able to share her sad story in October 2004 through the Mel Tiangco-hosted drama series, Magpakailanman. She explained then that incidents from her past had been revisiting her, like her long-lost father returning from Korea to ask her to keep his family name, that’s why she decided to relive a traumatic part of her life – and not revenge, she stressed.

In the said TV program (supported by news clippings that were passed around during the press conference promoting the episode), Jennylyn recalls her mother, who was then working in Dubai, had left her in the care of her stepfather. In late April 1991, their neighbors were alarmed when the girl’s stepfather beat and kicked her until she fell down the stairs of their old residence in Mandaluyong City. The neighbors then alerted her aunt, Lydia Mercado, who immediately sought the help of the police.

The pictures accompanying the news reports showed little Jennylyn with swollen and bruised eyes, as well as cigarette burns on her arms and hands. A flatiron had been pressed on her frail back, the news clippings reported.

Jennylyn recalled during the press con that her stepfather only spent a couple of days in detention because her mother hastily came home upon hearing the news of the abuse and bailed him out. She added that she hasn’t seen her stepfather since, and she’d rather not cross paths with him again.

She admitted to being deeply traumatized by the abuse. For a long time, she was afraid of people. When the doorbell would ring at the house of her Aunt Lydia, who legally adopted Jennylyn shortly after the rescue, she would get scared and hide inside the cabinet. She would also wake up in the middle of the night and cry because she felt somebody was trying to get her.

“Sa ngayon, wala nang fear,” she happily reports, adding that she regularly spreads cheers to some 150 kids as her way of reaching out and supporting those who have similarly harrowing experiences. It’s also her way of sharing the bountiful blessings that she’s been receiving since becoming a full-fledged artista.

At the start of her showbiz career, she did two supporting roles -- as the firstborn of Kris Aquino’s character in So. . .Happy Together and as the boyish friend of Richard Gutierrez in Let the Love Begin. Then she was promoted to lead-role status in Say that You Love Me, Lovestruck and Blue Moon, all opposite former boyfriend Mark Herras.

So far she has recorded two solo albums (the gold record Living the Dream and the recently launched Letting Go) and two compilations (the Moments of Love soundtrack that includes her duet with Janno Gibbs and the Christmas CD featuring other singers from the GMA label).

And, now, after co-starring in a string of TV shows (Click, Forever in My Heart, All Together Now, Joyride, Love to Love seasons 7 and 9, and Encantadia), the love team of Jennylyn and Mark moves up to primetime via I Luv New York, whose outdoor scenes were mostly shot in the Big Apple.

“We had so much fun!” she beams about their month-long stay in New York. “Parang hindi kami nagwo-work.

Jennylyn relates about bumping into a lot of her compatriots who would usually say hi to her. Those were either new settlers or who had Pinoy TV cable that carries most of the GMA 7 programming, she informs us.

Does she see herself working or settling down in New York?

“Someday,” she replies, grinning. Siyempre dito ako pinanganak at saka lumaki. Nandito ang pamilya ko, friends ko.”

And also Mr. Right?

Jennylyn and Mark became a love team right after emerging StarStruck winners (he was the Ultimate Male Survivor). Proximity plus push from fans and the press brought them closer together, eventually becoming an item off screen. The on and off (away-bati) episodes in their young and fragile relationship became fodder for tabloids and showbiz shows.

Since announcing their final breakup late last year, Jennylyn and Mark have been linked with other people. Mark has admitted to courting newcomer Marian Rivera. On the other hand, Jennylyn was said to have been gifted by Jake Cuenca, her leading main on Love to Love, with a cute dog – proof that they’re getting fond of each other.
Then again, there were rumors that Mark was wooing her again. In between takes of the taping, we spot Jennylyn and Mark bantering and just being themselves. She confirms becoming better friends with him.

With glint in her eyes and the glow on her face, Jennylyn insists she’s enjoying her single life and her booming career. She may not have a love life to speak of but she sure loves life. [/img]

CUT!
by : Noel Asiñas

May limitation siyempre.

Last Saturday nga, galing pa silang dalawa sa Gen.
