People's Tonite

Jennylyn Mercado, hospitalized

Article posted August 11, 2006

I Luv NY star Jennylyn Mercado was rushed to the hospital yesterday, August 9, due to low blood pressure.

She is currently undergoing a series of tests, although fans should not be worried since she is in good hands. If her condition improves, Jen can leave the hospital on August 11.

(Dolly Ann Carvajal)

Has Jennylyn Mercado become so allergic to intrigues? A colleague went to her house for an interview but she refused to come out of her room. She even turned hysterical! Perhaps she was just having a bad day. By now, Jen ought to know that intrigues are an occupational hazard. It’s a given, so every star just gotta forgive ’em.

SHOWBIZ BETTER THAN POLITICS

CHECK IT OUT
by : Bong De Leon

THE influx of new faces in the movie industry is not surprising. Everyone who thinks they have the potential to be like Claudine Barretto, Jennylyn Mercado, Marvin Agustin, Jolina Magdangal, Judy Ann Santos to name a few, try every possible venue to be in the limelight. So, can we blame parents who push their children to join showbiz even if it’s full of intrigues? At least it is better than politics where one almost always end up corrupt. In showbiz, they work for every penny body and soul, they do it the hard way—blood, sweat and tears. But the perks are endless. Now, don’t ask why they want to be movie stars, no matter what the consequences are.

Sneak Peek: How Jen & Jolina get their New York look

Article posted August 08, 2006

Ever wonder how Jolina and Jennylyn get the sophisticated city girl look they both sport in I Luv New York,? They had the help of freelance make-up artist Arvin Bernabe from LA, who flew to New York just to do the hit show’s continuity make-up. What’s his secret to creating the show’s signature look?

“For the girls, I use mostly MAC make-up. I specially like their Lacquer, which is a light liquid foundation. I use mostly Chanel and Stila for the eye shadow,” Arvin says.

“For Jen, I use greenish, blue-ish shadow on her eyes. New Yorker yung style talaga. Kay Jolina naman is more bronze, brown color lang talaga,” he adds.

Arvin took great care in crafting Jennylyn’s look, making sure that Natalie, her character, is very different from the Jennylyn Mercado that we see everyday. “I want the look talaga ni Jennylyn, maging iba for I Luv NY,” he says.

And seeing how different Natalie comes across from Jen, we’d say Arvin has succeeded. Arvin admits that creating Jen’s look wasn’t as easy as it looks. “Mas na-challenge ako sa look Jennylyn. Nag-iba yung aura niya. Mas mature siya ngayon. And when she has more eye shadow colors on her face, lalong gumaganda,” he says. (hindi rin )

Though making-up people’s faces is Arvin’s specialty, he still appreciates the beauty of a bare face. “Si Jen and Jolina, with or without make-up, they’re both beautiful,” he explains.

He also gushes about how easy it is to work with the two I Luv NY stars. “Mabilis lang sila pakisamahan. They’re not prima donnas. Walang ganoon dito. They’re very nice.

Arvin is very happy to be working for the show. “I’m very flattered and it’s an honor to do (the show’s) make-up. I want to thank GMA for giving me a chance na magmake-up sa kanila.

Aside from TV, Arvin’s work includes doing make-up for weddings and fashion shows. He’s also made up some of the most beautiful faces in Philippine showbiz, including Misses Ruffa Gutierrez and Lani Misalucha.

Gaze upon Arvin’s master make-up pieces when Polly and Natalie grace your television screens on I Luv NY, weeknights on GMA.

Hindi kasi namin maramdaman no?!

‘Eternity’ & other great love stories

GREAT LOVE STORIES – Think of the great love stories on the big screen.

"Maruja" (Susan Roces-Romeo Vasquez), "Imortal" (Vilma Santos-Christopher de Leon), "Hihintayin Kita sa Langit" (Richard Gomez-Dawn Zulueta, inspired by "Wuthe-ring Heights"), "Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit" (Nora Aunor-Tirso Cruz III), "Somewhere" (Rudy Fernandez-Lorna Tolentino) come to mind.

Add to the list "Eternity," topbilled by Dingdong Dantes and Iza Calzado, Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado, directed by Mark Reyes, written by Gina Marissa Tagasa, and produced by Regal Entertainment.

"Eternity" spans many gene-rations, starting in the 1800s and ending in 2006. It’s the story of two pairs of lovers, Crisanto (Dingdong) and Milagros (Iza), who lived during the Spanish era, and Cholo (Mark) and Meagan (Jennylyn), who are of the current generation.

·

ETERNAL LOVE – Un-known to the couples, their lives are intertwined as both are caught in the middle of family conflicts.

Crisanto’s father, a high-ranking Spanish officer, does not approve of Milagros whose mother is a Filipina servant and whose guardian is a Spanish friar. Meanwhile, Meagan’s mother goes ballistic when she discovers that her daughter is dating the son of the man res-ponsible for her husband’s death.

Although the relationships are forbidden, Crisanto and Milagros, and Cholo and Meagan continue to see each other and promise to love one another until the end of time, for eternity.

Direk Mark says "Eternity" is a very romantic film of epic proportions. The Spanish era with Dingdong and Iza is very chal-lenging to mount, but the present time for Mark and Jennylyn is just as exciting and engrossing. It was shot all over Luzon, especially Vigan, Ilocos Sur, which has preserved its Spanish heritage.

"The film is full of romance, drama, action, and suspense. It’ll make you fall in love for all of …eternity," Mark adds.

·

TEXTURE, HISTORY – Screenwriter GMT reveals that she was in love with the story that it took only four days to finish the script of "Eternity." A record time in her book.

What also motivated her was the concept, the vision imparted by Mark. "He said he wanted a romantic story with mixture, with touches of history. Direk’s passion is contagious. He’s brimming with ideas."

GMT says the casting is perfect. "Iza is such a classic beauty and Dingdong has the mestizo charm. It was but natural to place their story in the past. Mark and Jennylyn are so free- spirited, I see them as very now."

·

ACTORS, STARS – Regal producer Mother Lily Monteverde says, "We haven’t done a love story like this in such a grand scale. It’s only fitting that we get the top loveteams of today, Dingdong and Iza, Mark and Jennylyn."

Supporting the lead stars are esteemed actors like Hilda Koronel, Jaclyn Jose, Ernie Zarate, Jaime Fabregas, Juan Rodrigo, Pinky Amador, Bibeth Orteza, Carla Martinez, Jackie Castillejo.

Also in the cast are Bobby Andrews, Paw Diaz, Cheska Iñigo, Kristine Gonzales, Michael Roy, Arthur Solinap.
