A sweet reward for Jennylyn Mercado

ORIGINALLY, THIS QUEZON CITY HOME looked too mannish for a singer-actress as dainty as Jennylyn Mercado.

“When I first moved in two years ago, the paint was black and white. There was a black leather sofa in the living room. Even the dining set was black,” she recounts.

It looked like a bachelor’s pad. “Too boring. So I decided to liven it up.”

With dispatch, she imbued the two-story home with a decidedly feminine touch. “I had the walls repainted apple green, lilac, yellow, orange and white.”

She didn’t hire a professional interior decorator and just relied on her instincts.

“I chose the furniture pieces and décor, with the help of my Mommy Lydia,” she says.

Her fans and friends also contributed pieces here and there.

The “photo mosaic” portrait in her bedroom is a gift from a loyal follower. “She also gifted me with a bed sheet emblazoned with my portrait.”

The ER Tagle painting in the living room is a Christmas gift from a friend to Mommy Lydia.

The white teddy bear that sits on the Yamaha drum set’s stool is a present from boyfriend and fellow Kapuso Patrick Garcia. The red stuffed toy dog on the bed is a Christmas gift from ka-love team and fellow “Starstruck” winner Mark Herras.

The home, she asserts, is sweet reward for all the sacrifices of the past three years.

Guardian Lydia is proud and happy that Jennylyn was able to invest in a house-and-lot at a young age. She had just turned 18 when she bought the place.

“She worked hard for this. After only three years in show biz, she has already achieved a lot,” Lydia quips, beaming.

“I save my earnings in the bank. I can really be thrifty. I don’t buy anything unless it’s very important,” she points out.

She has very few indulgences (namely, perfume and shoes) and insists that they’re tools of the trade.

She similarly makes fine use of her latest acquisitions —the guitar and drum set—in her music career, especially since she’s now trying her hand in songwriting.

“I’ve been playing the guitar since I was in first year high school. Now, my dad Noli (Pineda) is teaching me how to play the drums,” she relates.

Ah, she only asks the neighbors to be patient …

At love triangle pa.

— Reggee Bonoan

Katrina at Jennylyn, pinasasabong!

Jun Nardo

Jennylyn is Maxim's January cover girl

Manila Bulletin
1/17/07

Jennylyn Mercado declares that she's "ready to be sexy." And that's exactly what she is on the cover-and inside pages-of the January issue of Maxim magazine. The Maxim pictorial, which immediately became news just a few days after the grueling shoot that took more than 15 hours to finish, Mercado is set to star in her new teleserye, Super Twins.

In the interview done by her Super Noypi director Quark Henares, Mercado admits she was hesitant at first about appearing in the sexy magazine. "I was nervous about not being able to do justice to the clothes-or the lack of it," she said.

For Maxim, getting Mercado-and her home network, GMA7-to agree to the shoot was a definite coup. The former Starstruck champion is possibly GMA 7's most protected talent and she had consistently turned down offers from the other men's titles to have her on their cover. That Maxim is published by the magazine unit of GMA 7's fierce rival, ABS-CBN, also made the decision all the more newsworthy.

But The network wars never seemed to have played a decision for Mercado, Besides, apart from Henares doing the interview, the shoot was handled by cinematographer Lyle sacris, whom Mercado had worked with before. "I was very comfortable," she said of the Maxim shoot.

Jennylyn, Patrick finally admit romantic liaison

01/17/2007 08:29 PM

Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia finally admitted that they're on, after a week of trying to keep mum about the issue. Still Mercado would rather have kept it to themselves.

In an interview with Lhar Santiago of "Chika Minute," aired on Wednesday evening, Mercado explained their reluctance to let admit the affair: "Kasi kamukha nung nangyari sa amin ni Mark [Herras] na parang gumulo.

Herras, her ex-boyfriend, has himself been the subject of rumors, linking him to Katrina Halili.

Mercado and Garcia are very conscious too that they could very well use interest in their personal relationship to attract attention to their shows.

But they'd rather keep their personal lives separate from their careers.

"Mas gusto namin ang tahimik," Mercado said.

Even their admission, in fact, was something they did out of media pressure.

"Actually, hindi kami ang nag-decide noon," Mercado said.

Last Saturday, January 14, Mercado and Garcia appeared on GMA's StarTalk, and gave what must be the most speechless interview ever in the history of local television.

Just a week earlier, they admitted on S-files that they love each other. In the January 14 episode, they made the admission by not denying anything.

Host Butch Francisco asked them if they were already officially a couple. The couple looked into each other's eyes, Mercado lightly squeezing Garcia's thigh, but they said nothing, despite Francisco's repeated question. The talk show host then decided that the silence, with not even a hint of denial from either, meant yes.

So he asked each of them what their promise was to each other. To which Mercado gave the same reply: "Nandito lang ako for him."

So are they now ready to face an insistent media hungry for any little tidbit about their new relationship?

"Ready na. Siguro may limit na. Hindi na katulad ng noon." - A.T. Magno, GMANews.TV

Ayaw daw niya kasing paghaluing muli ang kanyang career at personal life.

Jennylyn Mercado's halfway house

ANNA PINGOL,
01/17/2007 | 03:58 PM

If Jennylyn Mercado had her way, she would still live in Las Piñas, where she spent her childhood days. But her busy schedule dictated the need for a house in Quezon City, closer to the hub of showbiz.

As if all that wasn't hectic enough, there are live TV appearances and guestings to attend to, plus tapings, rehearsals, dubbings, and story and press conferences.

That's the reason for the move to a newly bought townhouse inside a middle-class subdivision in Quezon City. But Las Piñas is never out of Jen's mind.

Her future plans inlucde saving up and relocating to Las Piñas. "Gusto ko sana, ipa-renovate ko ýong bahay namin doon.

Still, she intends to hold on to the Quezon City townhouse. "Dito lang siya. Uuwi lang ako dito 'pag maraming trabaho or 'pag alanganin na. Parang halfway house lang."

Jen's adoptive mother loves the idea.

"Kasi talaga namang taga-Las Piñas kami," says Mommy Lydia. "'Yong una naming bahay doon na na-foreclose, 289 square meters ýon. Sa BF Resort ýon. Ýong bahay namin doon ngayon, maliit lang, pero up and down naman.

Mommy Lydia says she has already scouted around for a possible residence in Las Piñas. In particular, she's eyeing a place in Brittany Bay Subdivision, owned by the family of Senate President Manny Villar.

"Ang ganda!" Mommy Lydia gushes. "Ang ganda-ganda talaga. Doon ýon sa tapat ng Ayala Alabang."

Mommy Lydia says she has already initiated talks with the Villars, whom she personally knows.

At the boutique opening, she talked to the senator about the Brittany house and mentioned the possibility of getting a discount.

For the moment, the Quezon City townhouse is going through a facelift.

Kasi, dati, puti lahat 'yan."

The repainting was done in April 2006, while Jen was in New York for the filming of the defunct GMA teleserye, I Luv New York.

So, pati kuwarto niya, pinapinturahan namin."

With the help of Becky Aguila, Jen's manager, Mommy Lydia bought new things for the house, too. Jen came home to be greeted by new furnishings.

When Jen's schedule permits it, Mommy Lydia wants to hold a second house blessing for Jen's halfway house. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - MANILA STANDARD(G. Libarios)

In an attempt to keep up with the tough competition, Jennylyn Mercado has finally give in and posed for the men's magazine. After what seemed like an eternity, the Starstruck Season 1's Female Survivor said Yes to Maxim's magazine's offer to be its cover girl.

Although many young female stars have done it before her, Jennylyn's stint still caused a stir in the industry. Very rarely do stars accept offers that come from a competing network, let alone GMA's biggest foe in the ratings game.

But we can't ignore the fact that Jennylyn looked good in the photographs. The magazine has become a welcome distraction to male and female readers, especially Jen's fans across the Philippines. It's not everyday they see a young star, who's supposedly has a wholesome image, do something daring. Now they can stop daydreaming about Jennylyn and what she would look like if she wore a very reaveling outfit.

Ara Mina dismisses rumor about Polo and Jennylyn

Alex Datu Tuesday, January 16, 2007

excerpt

Unless nahuli ko, as in talagang may proof ako," paliwanag pa niya.

From Oghie Ignacio of Bulgar:

Sa kasalukuyan, halatang very happy sina Jennylyn at Patrick.

from Bulgar (Roldan Castro)

People's Tonight

Is there any way we can defend Jen and Patrick with what happened sa Startalk interview? First, they were both told that the interview was for Super Twins, staff were even at the studio. It was inevitable that they were asked about their personal relationship but they did not have to be grilled that way and words were put into their mouths at that.

“Also, remarks about Patrick’s being ‘kirat’ and Jen’s choice in men and her being ‘pa-demure’ was very uncalled for.

“People may say that Lolit (Solis) was just being her usual self. But both Jen and Patrick remained respectful towards her despite those blows, thus their silence.

“They do not deserve to be judged negatively after what happened.”

Another texter wrote: “Jen and Patrick’s point is they both do not want or need to capitalize on their relationship for any other project. They choose to be quiet about it and that should be respected.

“After all, their being together has got nothing to do with how they’ll deliver at work. They are both professionals and are credited for their talents, so I see no point in their relationship being exposed to promote a project.

“It’s just sad that Jen and Patrick had to be embarrassed that way. I really hope we can do something about them.”

Let’s just wait for the right time na ready na silang umamin.

JENNYLYN, TINULUGAN NI PATRICK

c/o dhudz

ngayon.

Patrick, Jennylyn: Silent admission that they're a couple?

01/15/2007 | 05:37 PM

Silence may be golden, at least on television. But that's dead air on radio, as host Butch Francisco realized in last Saturday's StarTalk.

The GMA weekly showbiz talk show started its simultaneous live broadcast over AM radio dzBB with a lot of dead air, because two its guests — Patrick Garcia and Jennylyn Mercado — gave what must be the most speechless interview ever in the history of local television.

A week after the couple admitted, live, in the same program that they love each other, host Butch Francisco asked if they were already officially a couple.

The couple looked into each other's eyes, Mercado lightly squeezing Garcia's thigh, but they said nothing, despite Francisco's repeated question.

The talk show host then decided that the silence, with not even a hint of denial from either, meant yes. So he asked each of them what their promise was to each other.

The two were just silent when asked if they are already on

Wells Avante | Monday, January 15, 2007

After Mark Herras, Jennylyn now finds happiness in Patrick Garcia

c/o livestrong

Manila Bulletin
Entertainment
Celebrity World

We first saw Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia together during the December launch of The Great Finds Fair that served as the formal inauguration of the second branch of Finds Superstore at the second level of Starmall Las Piñas.

But at that time, we didn’t detect any onset of romance between them yet. They were just casual and cordial and friendly but there was a certain chemistry that radiated between them. We thought they were a handsome pair. And now, Jennylyn and Patrick are said to be sweethearts and we’re happy for them.

We found out Jennylyn and her family are supporters and friends of the Villars (Senator Manny and Congresswoman Cynthia Villar and family); in fact Jennylyn and Camille are childhood friends. Finds Superstore, metro’s latest chain of department stores, is a brainchild of Camille and her brother Mark who handle the marketing/merchandising and store operations, respectively. Finds Superstore’s first branch at the Starmall EDSA–Shaw opened last year.

Finds Superstore offers a fresh take on retailing, with its uncluttered, well-lit and tastefully appointed selling area, making it a breeze to browse around and get that soughtafter "exceptional find." Finds is defintely committed to giving shoppers true value for their money. The merchandise are affordable while maintaning that high quality and superior style.

This superstore offers a wide array of chic home furnishings decor, toys, fashion accessories, health and beauty products and trendy clothings.

Also sold exclusively at Finds is JEN, the hip clothing line of Jennylyn Mercado. Designed by the actress/singer herself, the clothes reflect her own personal taste in fashion. They’re made for a hectic yet glamorous lifestyle and they’re affordable, easy to wear and funky and unique, Jennylyn promises.

By the way, Speaker Manny Villar and wife Cynthia were at the Great Finds Fair to lend support to their children. It was a fun–filled afternoon with great food, carnival games, magic tricks, juggling acts, facepainting, and musical numbers among other treats.

Jennylyn Mercado at Marian Rivera nagiging close

c/o dada

By: Vinia Vivar

GUESS who kung sino ang nagiging close ngayon? Sina Marian Rivera at Jennylyn Mercado.

* * *

To quote the film critic in his article, “I would have to give my nods to Jennylyn and John Prats for adding more fire to their portrayals.

“Jennylyn seems to really throw herself into her characters and that augurs well to her acting future.”
