Jennylyn Mercado’s door is open to all but one

Jennylyn Mercado and Angel Locsin have the same manager, Becky Aguila, but the former claims to be clueless about the latter’s severance of ties with the one handling their showbiz careers.

“Wala talaga akong alam,” says Jennylyn in an interview after the press con proper for her new soap, “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak,” which premieres on Feb. 8 on GMA-7.

The singer-actress also clarifies that aside from Aguila, she’s also under the care of Viva Entertainment Artist Agency and only works for GMA-7 on a per-project basis.

She emphasized, though, that it does not mean she’ll find greener pastures in other networks. “Kung gusto ko’ng lumipat, sana noon pa pero dahil sa love at loyalty ko sa GMA-7, hindi ko gagawin ‘yan,” she points out, adding that she’ll stick it out with the network that discovered and made her a star as long as it needs her.

She’s thankful for the projects that GMA-7 has been giving her. “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak” comes on the heels of her other soap, “Ikaw Sana,” which concluded on Feb. 5, and is an adaptation of the award-winning 1990 movie directed by Lino Brocka.

Jennylyn essays the role originated by Dina Bonnevie – that of an aspiring actress who becomes the town mayor’s mistress – and she considers it her most daring assignment thus far.

“Nangatog ako na’ng mapanood ko ang DVD lalo na no’ng nakita ko ang love scene ni Miss Dina (with Eddie Garcia). Kaya ko kaya ito? Parang kinakabahan talaga ako kasi first time kong gagawin ‘yun,” she shares.

But she deems it wise not to replicate Dina’s film portrayal. “Siguro hindi rin maganda na gagayahin mo lang,” she explains. “Kumbaga lahat ng artista, may kanya-kanyang paraan ng pag-atake sa role. Kailangan ko lang siguro pag-igihan.”

Jennylyn also parries off link ups with her “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak” leading man, Dennis Trillo.

“Parati kong sinasabi na ang ganda ng company naming dalawa na magkaibigan,” she avers. “Pero hindi mo naman masasabi kasi baka mamaya kainin ko pa ang sinabi ko. Single naman ako. Hindi naman ako nagsasara ng door.”

There’s one person, though, whom Jennylyn would rather not see at her door. “Para sa akin, naka-move na ‘ko. Parang wala na akong pakialam kasi kaya kong ibigay lahat sa anak ko. Hindi ko kailangan ng kahit sino para mabigay no’n,” she declares, referring to her ex, actor Patrick Garcia, who’s also the father of her one-year-old son, AJ.

But the hardworking single mom maintains that if one day AJ asks about his dad, she would give him full disclosure on her and Patrick’s failed affair.

“And I’ll let him decide kung ano ang gusto n’ya – makita or hindi n’ya makita ang father n’ya,” she states.
